I'm Georgiana Mirza. I research that question at VU Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Law & Technology Institute, after eight years advising on competition and data protection law in practice.
I am a PhD candidate in EU law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a researcher at the Amsterdam Law & Technology Institute (ALTI). My doctoral research examines digital ecosystems in competition law and market regulation.
I am affiliated with the Kooijmans Institute and the Boundaries of Law research programme, where I study regulation, compliance and innovation. My project is part of the Empirical Legal Studies sector plan.
My work sits where established competition law principles meet newer rules on platforms, AI, cybersecurity, consumer protection and data.

Before joining VU I worked for more than eight years in De Brauw's competition, data protection and litigation practice, most recently as Senior Legal Adviser. I acted in multi-jurisdictional merger control proceedings, advised on foreign direct investment and foreign subsidies screening, and handled cross-border competition and data protection damages claims, including collective actions.
